    LODGING

MIX recommends two hotels, both within walking distance of the show.

    • The University Inn is an extended stay hotel that’s quiet, comfortable, and very affordable. A block of rooms has been reserved for MIX guests. When making your reservation, be sure to say you’re with “MIX: The Minneapolis Indie Xpo” to get the discounted room rate of $65 for a single $75 for a double. The University Inn can be reached by calling 612-746-1300.
    • The The Depot Renaissance Hotel is a lovely option for guests wanting a more “Minneapolis” experience. The historic Depot is near the Guthrie Theater, Mill City Museum, and many downtown attractions — plus it’s just a short walk from the festival by way of the lovely Stone Arch Bridge. Our group rate of $109 per night (single or double) includes four waterpark tickets. Reservations for guests staying within the November 3-7, 2011, time frame can be made by calling 612-375-1700 or 866-211-4611. Be sure to say you’re with the “MIX Mpls Indie Xpo” room bock. Reservations can also be made online by visiting: THIS LINK. Please make your reservation prior to October 4, 2011 as this is the cutoff date for this outstanding rate.

    TRANSIT

    • The light rail runs directly from the airport into downtown Minneapolis. It’s a cheap, convenient way to get into the city. Make sure to pay before you ride, using one of the light rail kiosks.
    • Minneapolis has a bike sharing program called Nice Ride MN. Pay $5 per day to rent a bike, then ride it in half-hour increments for free and pay a little extra for additional blocks of time. Learn more about this program direct from Nice Ride MN.
    • MetroTransit has a great trip planner on their website that is extremely easy to use. Figure out your bus or light rail route, with connection times, pricing and view walking maps.

    LEARN ABOUT THE CITY

    • Meet Minneapolis is the city’s official convention and visitor association.  You can send away for a visitor information packet which includes useful coupons, maps, reviews and recommendations.  Their list of 150 Things to Do in Minneapolis is particularly nice and even breaks down activities by season.
    • Learn about what makes the Twin Cities greater than great by visiting the blog Win Cities, which catalogs the high-ranking achievements of Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Minnesota in general.
    • 365 Things to Avoid in the Twin Cities takes a snarky, fun look at what’s totally avoidable during your stay in Minneapolis.
